Chipmunks are striped rodents that are only around 5-6 inches and weigh an average of 3 ounces. They are usually seen as incredibly cute rodents. You will come across many people who adore these round, fluffy, tiny animals. However, they can be very destructive. Some people also wake up to find chipmunks in their backyard making it their housing space. No matter how it might have occurred, you can find yourself in a situation where a chipmunk’s presence surprises you and you have no idea how to deal with it.

Chipmunks can enter your backyard. 
Your first instinct might be to get rid of it. It is completely normal if a chipmunk does not move when you try to scare it away. One reason for this could be that it is now in its aggressive mode and instead of being scared away, it has decided to stay there. Not only this, but you may also find it behaving strangely. If its strange or aggressive behavior is of concern to you, then it is better to learn why it is happening and what to do about it.

This can be because it is injured and not feeling well. If it is going around in circles or sitting still, there are chances it is harmed or sick, either physically or mentally. Either way, picking it up can cause extra stress. So, it is better to not touch it. You should contact a wildlife rehabilitation center as soon as possible. They will properly guide you on how to deal with the chipmunk without causing harm to you or the animal. 

Chipmunks might behave aggressively at times.
This occurs when they feel trapped. It is a wild animal and its instinct is to bite if it feels it is in danger. If it is aggressive in its behavior, the first thing you should do is keep a distance. The closer you get to it, the higher the chances of it attacking you. The best approach is to give it a lot of space. Do not pick it up! You are more likely to threaten it further and it could end up harming you.

You should also contact the nearest animal control center.
If you know of a wildlife agency, you can call them up too. They will assess how threatening the situation is and take the necessary steps. If during the process, you got attacked or bitten, you should wipe that area with anti-bacterial soap and water. Apply a disinfectant and see a doctor as soon as possible. A chipmunk bite could cause diseases.
